Danish folk metal band Svartsot revealed their upcoming album “Peregrinus”, set for release on September 5 via Mighty Music. Known for blending melodic death metal with traditional Scandinavian folk elements, the band promises an intricate concept album filled with authentic melodies and their signature high-energy sound. This release marks their 20th anniversary, following their 2022 album Kumbl, which reimagined Nordic folk ballads.
Formed in 2005 in Randers, Denmark, Svartsot—whose name translates to “black sickness,” a reference to the Black Death—features Cris Frederiksen (guitars), Hans-Jørgen Martinus (vocals, mandolin, mandola), Frederik Uglebjerg (drums), Simon Böttger (guitars), Michael Alm (whistles, bagpipes), and Stewart C. Lewis (bass).
“Peregrinus” introduces their new drummer, Rune, and the band describes it as their best work yet, a fitting milestone for their two-decade journey. However, they hint at a shift, noting it may be their last traditional album as they prepare for a new chapter.
Stay tuned for pre-order details and prepare for a folk metal odyssey this September.
